In Loving Memory of Bella

In Loving Memory of Bella (English Mastiff)
Our loving, sweet, caring, comical, Jeep off-roading (make sure top is down), bed hogging, slobber
slinger, porch sitting, sunbathing, and going to Maw Maw and Paw Paw house crossed the Rainbow
bridge on Jan 2, 2023. It all started on January 8, 2021, when I received the call to come to North
Carolina to rescue her. She was found in 4 X 5 crate outside with trash all around her and had an open
sore on her side due to trying to circle around in the cage that was not her size. When we arrived at the
lady’s home who was holding her for us, I went in, and her other mommy went in, and she flew passed
me and went straight to Mommy! Once that happened, I knew this was meant to be.
She was so malnourished at 78 lbs. and all the loving’s and kisses we received in that short of time, she
was going to be one healthy and loved girl. We drove straight home with snow and only a few stops
because we were so excited, (she was spoiled in 1 minute lol) the 2-3 potty breaks we took we had
already purchased a collar and leash; she got out of the car and was perfect on a leash and then on that
lengthy drive we knew she was a vehicle riding girl! Once home and introduced her to her NEW home
she was all kisses and loveable. You could see it in her eyes that she was so happy and thankful. As the
saga continues, she met her Maw Maw and Paw Paw and immediately fell in love with them, and they
also fell in love with her. I think Bella and her Mommy spoke a certain kind of dog language that I surely
didn’t. She had to be up her Mommy’s rear end all the time. So, within a year she had broke the 125 lb.
mark and in another she was @ 140 lbs. Anytime that Jeep was going she thought she needed to go too.
Bella was registered as ES (Emotional Support) and done an excellent job with this. Bella’s 2022 year
wasn’t the best, the big thing that happened was she just about lost her Paw Paw to a Widow Maker
Heart Attack and a stroke withing 24 hours of each other. We were given permission to bring her to the
Hospital where her Paw Paw was, and it made both of their days. She was so careful with him and not
get to close because she knew something wasn’t right with him. All the family transferred with him to
SOMC in Portsmouth, Ohio for Rehab. Bella loved to play with smaller dogs but not bigger ones and
once she was annoyed with the small ones she would just walk away. Bella was happy now that her Paw
Paw was able to come home and still be her Paw Paw and sometimes when she went to their house, she
would pass up Maw Maw and go straight to Paw Paw. One of the best memories is she gets on the
floor, flips over on her back, and thrashes her 4 legs around in the air and we always say to her “Bella,
are you telling us a story?” She would always making funny noises and it was like she was trying to talk
to us and tell us a story. When her Maw Maw would call, she would talk to Bella thru the speaker phone
and then look at the front door like her and Paw Paw should be coming in. Bella was always on a routine
schedule that SHE made. It was at 8 p.m. she would get up on the couch and lay down and then around
9:30 p.m. she would patiently wait and pace for us to come to bed. It was so funny to see her do this.
She went camping with us and, she took it upon herself to get up in our camper and she claimed her bed
and what was hers real fast.
Bella’s favorite treat was the Purina Busy Bones (or whatever Maw Maw and Paw Paw) had. Bella, we
know you are watching over all of us and not suffering any longer. You were the love of all our lives, and
we will forever cherish and honor you. Mom, Mommy, Maw Maw and Paw Paw love you even more and
please don’t let Chunky eat you up! She doesn’t play well with others so just understand if she doesn’t
want to play! GO HIDE!
Rest in Peace Bella

In Loving Memory of Arlo

My boys name was Arlo. He came into my
Life when I was out of my house due to a house fire and I was living in a no pet apartment. They called and said “they’re going to kill him.” And I said “not on my
Watch. What is the worst that could happen? I could be homeless. Well- I am homeless already! Bring him to me.”
When I got him my husband was so mad that he didn’t speak to me for 3 days. On the third day, a Monday, I had to do domestic violence presentations in two jails and Arlo couldn’t go. I left him with my husband, who still wasn’t speaking. On my lunch hour I got a call from him. He said “he’s a good dog damnit.” And so it began.
Arlo was 8 years old. The vet thought he was a labradoodle. His favorite treat was bones from Tractor Supply and he would steal them out of the box and take off running.
He loved to be anywhere I was. He slept in my bedroom and waited by the door until I got in from work. During the past couple of years he laid beside me as I wrote my dissertation. He was always there for support.
When Arlo was so sick, he spent most of the last of his energy getting up to see me when I came in at lunch and wagging his tail for me. That was on my birthday. I had to have him put to sleep the next day. I am still heartbroken and always will be. That is probably why it took me 3 months to write this.

Rest in Peace Arlo
