Lucy”
We lost the best little girl in the world on February 6th. Lucy crossed the rainbow bridge quietly knowing she held a very special place in the heart of every member of her family for ten years. She was a long-haired miniature dachshund. It was instant love from the first time we saw her – she barked real big and then laid down and showed us her belly. She was her mom’s shadow – going on car rides with her head stuck out the window – and licking her hand and offering a little bit of comfort whenever she was having a bad day.
Lucy never had any puppies of her own – but she helped her “sister” a Basset-Beagle rescue that invaded her home unaware she’d be having puppies in a couple weeks. Lucy would go first thing each morning to check on the puppies offering a nudge or lick or whatever she thought needed to be done. She was also the first to offer help to a feral cat that had kittens on our front porch – she’d bark to go outside so she could check on the kittens.
She loved getting drinks out of the bathroom faucet and she’d much rather carry around and look for a place to hide a bone from her sister than chew on it. Any socks or lingerie left out would instantly be taken by Lucy and placed under the bed along with her other treasures. She thought she was ten feet tall and loved running and barking in the yard and protecting everyone that she loved.
Good-bye our sweet Lucy – you may be gone – but will live forever in our hearts.
